The Local Area
The Pyrenean foothills lend themselves to walking, which can be as gentle or as taxing as you wish, or alternatively, try cycling, horse riding, bird watching, painting...the list is endless!
There is also a plethora of other places to visit in the immediate area, from amazing historical sites which reflect the region's bloody past, to deep underground grottos - you will have a problem fitting every thing in!
Crossing the adjacent River Cady, you can take the waters in Vernet's famous thermal baths which have been used by Rudyard Kipling, Niccolo Paganini, Hans Christian Andersen and many others, and the grounds in which they sit is a botanist's dream!
Vernet les Bains itself lies in the French Department of Roussillon, which in him, is part of Catalonia, which is about one third in France and two thirds in Spain. Our home is about five minutes walk from restaurants, bars, shops and banking facilities.

Prades
Our local market town with its colourful narrow streets and bustling, typically French, Tuesday morning market is only 15 minutes away.
The Mediterranean
The clear blue waters of the sunseeker's paradise of Canet Plages or Argeles-sur-Mer; alternatively, the gastronomique delights of the swish seafood restaurants of Collioure or Port Vendres, are only about three-quarters of an hour distant.
Perpignan
At only 35 minutes drive this is the capital of Roussillon and French Catalonia, and is full of up-market boutiques and streetside, tiny al fresco restaurants.
Ski resorts
The nearest slopes are at Mont Louis (45 minutes) and stretch all the way to Andorra (80 minutes) with everything from the nursery slopes, to the deadly serious stuff!
Spain
The border is only 50 minutes drive for all your cheap booze and tobacco, then if you wish, drive on for another hour to one of the world's most vibrant cities - Barcelona!
